16v No 5th gear
« on: 14 June 2005, 09:09 »
Sorry if this has been covered before. I was driving home the other day and all of a sudden my 5th gear dropped off, seems to be going straight to 3rd instead.Think this is probably a fairly easy fix, but is it still ok to drive?
TIA

there is a little plastic connector that runs of the top of the relay shaft, this quite often breaks causing you to lose 5th gear. stick your head under the bonnet and get somebody to try n select 5th gear. you'll see the broken bit. replacment part costs about a £1 and take 2mins to fit

There are 3 rods that control the gearchange, a thin metal one and 2 rods with plastic end caps, short and long.  The short one is what you should be looking at, I had the same on my driver one of the caps had a crack in it which you couldn't see when looking at it from above.  Take it off and have a good look :)
