Question about brakes
« on: 21 May 2012, 23:15 »
This may seem like a daft question but im going to ask it anyway lol
so when im driving my car under 25mph it constantly feels like the front drivers side wheel is going over a bump, so i took off the wheel to see if i could notice anything unusual.
I found that my brake disc isnt connected to the hub/axle, u can almost pull it free, only the caliper stops it and only the wheel nuts hold it in place :s is this normal? Or as dangerous as i think? Lol

Its not dangerous as your wheel nuts will hold it on,seems youve not got the locating screw ,people snap them as they become seized and dont bother to replace them after a disc change.

Could also be a sticking caliper.

Bit of a shot in the dark here... but:

I recently owned a Nissan Primera (say what you will but it's built in Britain and is a cracking car to drive). Anyway, they have a common fault that the ABS comes on when braking at slow speed. They have a cast and toothed ring and these teeth can break off causing the fault. Also worth checking the sensor.

It only happens when the brake pedal is pressed though. Since yours happens while driving I would check that, plus I would check the wheel for play (bearings) and that every nut and bolt on the suspension is tight. Any play in the strut top?
