maf differences after remap??
« on: 14 May 2012, 23:15 »
Hi guys, I recently went for a stage 1 remap at rtech on my 1.8t agu a3 with the ko3 turbo. I left with around 190bhp so I was pretty chuffed!!

The problem I have tho is when it was mapped it was mapped to a cheap eBay maf and I was advised to buy a genuine Bosch maf asap.
Now with my bosch maf on the car it does not feel like it boosts quite as high or violently and kind of feels abit bland again..would this be likely to happen or could it be something else?

Sorry if this dosnt make sense or any spelling mistakes on my phone atm.

help appreciated :)

Was it a brand new MAF?

The copy maf tend to under read down low which will make the car think it need more boost, the under reading will also make the car run a strong timing map, the long term issues are with the lambda and fuel trims.

Hi, yes it was a brand new bosch maf.

Ive tried both mafs and road tested and it seems as tho the bosch maf boost's about 3/4psi lower then with the cheap ebay one (15/16psi)

As for the fuel trims, ive noticed my car has been terrible on fuel with the ebay maf, going to brim it and see what i get to the bosch one.

Thanks for your help.

Ryan.

Did you have a stage 1 custom remap with us?
Was ther MAF from TPS or main dealer? as the ECP and GSF mafs read wrong and dont have the same calibrations as the "x" units from TPS or main dealers.

You more than welcome to pop down and have the mapped tweaked to work with the OEM Bosch maf.

I did yes, came down about a  month or so again now, had the black a3 with the white wheels,

It was just from my local motor factors store, don't know if these read wrong do they?

That's sounds good yes thanks, id rather having it running spot on again to be honest, i will be down sometime soon, not exactly sure when as  its a fair trek for me  but i will let you know closer the time :)

Cheers for the help.

The motor factors state the are recon Bosch units which they are, but most of them are calibrated in China.  They come in with a round yellow sticker or white paper sticker on the maf.  Its these MAF which are inconsistent and and not calibrated as the same as the recon X units from VAG direct.   I have seen 1000s of these mafs cause issues, from slight add fuel trims to over reading by 120% and pinning the mult fuel trims a -25%.

You need to get one from TPS then you know its 100% as it should be.
