Mk2 16v being stroppy
« on: 05 June 2005, 10:26 »
Ok,

I recently 'rescued' a mk2 16v from certain death and have began restoring back to road use.  It has been off the road since 2002.  The problem im having basically is to do with the engine, its done 129k and ive done a full service and cambelt change.

Anyway, the trouble is - It starts fine 'using throttle' and revs ok.

It will occasionally idle at about 600rpm, rocking and shaking before petering out (no effect from air screw or C02 screw).

Had mechanic guy come round and set the timing, and atached a Gas analyser that is showing Hydrocarbons up in the 3000's which is waaaaay high apparently (lots of unburnt fuel)

The top end sounds noisey, so im wondering if a few of the tappetts are stuck down or if the camchain is worn.

Also, i took it for a blat last night for about 6 miles or so and it ran slightly hot (a bit past the halfway on the guage) and had a terrible hiccup/flat spot in the revs at about 4k - once past 5k it was ok?  Revs plummet below 2k.

Diconnecting the ISV has no effect although it does buzz and everything, have cleaned the throttle body and air mass plate.

HELP!

I have the manifolds and cam cover off, trying to see if any tappetts are stuck down, but cant see anything.

Also, injector seals look worn but surely this would lean out the mix?

sounds like you might have timed it wrong when you did the cambelt :undecided:
