steering joint cover,mot failure ???

Hi all.Just trying to get my car ready for it's mot and bearing in mind the new laws i have just noticed that the cover that goes over the u joint where the column meets the rack has a hole in it.

After reading the new rules for the MOT i'm wondering if that will cause it to fail.

The part i mean is :-

and the new MOT rules state :-


"Steering & suspension

The new test includes a check on the presence and correct function of the steering lock where fitted as standard.

Missing, or split/damaged dust covers on steering and suspension ball-joints will result in failure if they will allow dirt to enter the joint."

As it's not actually a ball joint i'm left wondering ?.If i do have to replace it is it an pig or............?

Steering rack boots have always failed for being insecure or split, but im really not sure about that.

Personally i dont think the tester will notice, will be hard to spot.

Take the cover off 

Most sterring rack UJ's dont have boots on them

Wrap it in duct tape
