Hi Everyone,

As the title says, just bought a Mk2 16v GTI 3 door in Grey off a mate.
No photos as of yet but will post some shortly.

Came for the right money and its a big bumper 16v with original golf leather and bottlecaps.
Been around the world though at 195 thou but drove it home and engine pulls well with no knocks, rattles or bangs after being stood for 5 months.
Good oil pressure, compression and water pressure.
Needs a fair bit of work but the chassis seems solid with no major rot.
Has a nearly new standard sounding powerflow stainless exhaust fitted.
Interesting Plate! G*** UUU

Work for the near future;
Back to standard!!!!
Monumental oil leak from the rocker cover! Engine degrease and probably a head gasket, cam belt and seal kit!
Starter motor solenoid sticking.
Strip and replace engine electrics, filters and fluids.
Brake strip/ clean/ rebuild, I think an ancor would have slowed the car down quicker on the way home lol.
Gear linkage! Moving the stick is like mixing a bag of gravel! no gate left on reverse! I think this is common on the Mk2?? Am I right??
It has a cough when you boot it! could be down to the old fuel, damp engine electrics, distributor covered in oil or an issue with the K-Jet. Dont know much about K-jet so would appreciate a nudge in the right direction for parts / information??
A good old clean inside and out, the things not been looked after too well in the last year.
Address any other issues which arise when I get it on a ramp!
Then MOT time!

Work for the future;
Address the body work, All the arches seem ok, bonnet has a dint, drivers door has a dint, Wiper panel is just starting to go just at the bottom of the screen, boot lid needs paint, Tabs missing on the insecure arches, missing jacking point cover, rip in drivers seat, need an unmolested parcel shelf in black, (expect they are like rocking horse s**t to find!) Manual sunroof mechanism has been replaced for two blocks of wood. Wheels need a refurb. Need a few little bits of missing trim and clips for the inside and outside. Carpets are dry though  :smug:

Car history;
Well im a bit of a petrol head (but dont tie me down to being a devoted dubber) Dad owns a workshop; grew up in there with him!
Started life in an EG chassis Civic
had a 1977 Triumph Spitfire which I restored at the same time
Sold both for a red CRX del Sol 1600 vtec manual roof which I stripped, painted and tracked. Putting out about 180 dynoed at the wheels NA.
Bought an 86c Polo bready and rat looked it for University! Best car I ever had!
Sold both and bought a 54 plate 3 series diseasel as I do a few miles for work now.
In the middle of a project house at the moment but every spare minute will be spent on the GTI! Im glad to have another project on the go  :grin:
