« on: 30 March 2012, 11:07 »
What is the 2 pronged thing that goes in the top of the water expansion bottle.

over heated at the petrol station and this blew out of the top and the mounting/gasket has split off.

have called the garage as it's only just come back after loads of work but would like to know what it actaully is!

Is the coolant lid blue? There shouldnt ever be enough pressure in the system to blow the level senson off.

yup.

i didn;t think it should just shear off.

Getting it towed back to the garage in the morning to see whats going on, it's only just got back after a months worth of tinkering too.

sad times.

Could be a head gasket issue if it is building that much pressure.

Does that sound a bit like the gasket has blocked a water channel?

just to clear this up. the previous owner had snapped the coolant level sensor off and glued it back on.......the glue just melted and therefore the sensor just fell off, letting the water out which steamed up when it hit anything hot.....

new water bottle, new sensor....done.
