Get some hydrocarbon tester strips fill up with water stick strip into the expansion tank check what colour if headgasket is gone there will be hydrocarbon's in the water i.e water!
Second opinion as its a costly job!

Compression test doesn't always show headgasket failure.

had it looked at today with new pipe plus coolent.Result was blueish smoke plus water soon bubbled they man recons Icooked the engine the short distance I drove.Been advised to look for new engine or take engine to bits and rebuild what needs doing whats best option as a replacement engine might be the same

There are full KR lumps flying about on ebay for £250 a pop all the time, really simple swap. May be worth taking the head off though just to quickly see whats what. If your pistons are sill round and show no signs of scratching the barrel it would be worth grabbing a new head and giving that a go.
