caliper rubbing on disc
« on: 20 March 2012, 17:51 »
took my passenger hub off yesterday to change a wheel bearing.

took the hub to a garage to get the bearing pushed in. put it all back together and the caliper is rubbing on the disc.

not my picture but the red arrow shows where it's rubbing.

discs aren't warped as it's rubbing all the way round, put new pads in today.

strange thing is, when you look, there is a 2-3mm gap between caliper and the disc, but when driving you can hear the grinding.

and it's definitely the caliper and disc because the disc is marked and the caliper has lost it's paint, just looks clean.

any suggestions as its driving me mad? thanks

i'm thinking that too, still do.esn't make sense that you can see the gap. everything is tight! will be stripping it down tomorrow anyway.

Its really easy to put a bearing in on an angle, the disc is probably rubbing on the caliper as the caliper is straight and the whole hub assembly including disc is on a slight angle, i bet if you move the disc by hand it will rub.

i've moved it, with the wheel bolted on too. seem's that the gap is always there though :undecided:

that's what i don't understand. how it only occurs when i'm driving, but on inspection, there is no contact between the 2.

Make sure the caliper is not sticking.
