Cambelt change
« on: 09 October 2012, 20:54 »
I have a 1996 Golf GTD and in a couple of weeks I`m going to do a Timing-belt change for the first time,I took the cover off today and there are no ot marks for the camshaft sprocket I know how to check TDC position for the crank shaft sprocket from the gearbox hopefully there are markings there.
Any idea's on how I am going to hold the camshaft, injector sprockets from moving?

There should be OT marks. You can just make your own marks with tipex. Mark the block and pulleys carefully and then make marks on the pulleys and the old belt. Imitate the marks onto the new belt and put it on.

Where all my moneys went.

Golf MK3 1.6. Golf MK3 8v GTI.

No marks on any I will use tipex as you said.
When I loosen the tensioner and remove the belt do the sprockets move easily, are they going to give me trouble when installing the belt?
