I am currently fixing my friends mk3 tdi estate gearbox as the driveshaft came loose and went through it, however i am struggling to find another tdi gearbox locally or with in a 30 miles distance. So i was doing a little research into what other gearboxes would fit and i was told by a friend that the mk3 gti gearbox should fit but i am not 100% sure if this is true???
Firstly my friends tdi is a late 1996 with the hydraulic and cable (box code CTN) 90bhp engine and after taking the box out and looking at it it looks just like my old G60 box
however anything with a G60 in the ad will fetch good money
So what i am really wanting to know is if a gti box will fit, what difference will it make to drive it, are the spines the same size and is it just the final gear that will be different?
Also on that topic is there a size difference between gti driveshafts and tdi ones?
