VW Main Dealers
« on: 27 September 2003, 17:42 »
Has anyone had trouble with VW main dealers? I've been using a Listers Group dealer in Nuneaton, Warwickshire and, while their customer service is fine, the technical ability seems to be somewhat lacking.

E.g. I had a problem with my car cutting out. After the car going in and out of the garage for a month they gave up and I had to return the car to where I bought it from to get it fixed. I had also noticed that the immobiliser no longer worked. Upon questioning why it didn't work they told me that they had removed it and had neglected to inform me or the customer service staff. The most worrying thing is that the lack of an immobiliser voids my insurance.

About a month after I bought my car, a MK3 GTi 16v, I took it to Listers for a service. As it had covered 65,000 miles I thought that it might be a good idea to have the cam belt changed. I returned to pick my car up and was informed that my cam belt hadn't been changed because they don't normally need to be changed until they've done 80,000 miles. They told me they'd checked it and it was OK. Since then I have covered around 200 miles in my car and a week ago the cam belt broke causing over ?1,000 worth of damage. Of course Listers except no responsibility.

I've had numerous problems with this car over the 6 months I have owned it and because of the support I have received from Listers I will be reluctant to own another VW.

At the moment I am using my dad's car to get to work because Lister's failed to sort a courtesy car out for me. In my book this is not acceptable.

I would be interested to hear your comments

Thats bad........really bad  >:(
Its not the car that's bad, its the dealer service and support (or lack of) thats bad. Unfortunately I can see that it lets the whole package down.
I have never been in the market for a newer VW or Audi so have never had to tolerate this incompetence. I tend to buy the older one's and maintain them myself.......as a result, I realise what a quality car they are.
Unfortunately I don't think yours is an isolated case......VW need to WAKE UP! No point in selling a quality car if their dealerships can't maintain them.  >:(

I feel better now  ;D ;D

Quite agree Rich, my M reg VR6 is the newest car i've ever owned! As for VW dealers, there is gonna be some decent independent around somewhere you can go to. Just got to look! I would also complain to VW main office about this sh!t dealer you have quoted.

That is terrible news my friend, for the sake of a ?10 belt your engine is up the duff. I would try and find an independant. got to be better in the long run.

As rich said the cars are good but like any other car need maintenance, this is where the trouble starts, you take it to a main dealer and they just want the cash, do a shoddy job and couldn't really care less about what you want as long as its a nice little earner for them.

Have a look round in your area for a good independant garage. If you find a good one, befriend him, pop round with cakes, marry him if you have too. but keep him sweet.
