more power please
« on: 23 June 2003, 19:31 »
I have a 1999 20 turbo wich i have had remaped by revo and also have a k&n panel filter.
What should i do next, uprate the exhaust maybe or drill the air box or maybe a bump valve but im not sure what that will do and if it will work with the remap.
Any help would be great... ::)
Cheers Starry..

A dump valve will release your inlet charge between gear changes and stop the backpressure from stalling the turbo (and sometimes shattering the impellor fins in the turbo) it will also help to sustain the turbo spinning, and deliver the power quicker after a gearchange.

I'd recommend an exhaust & air-filter as the 1st mods to do.

Then a bigger turbo & decent aftermarket boost guage, intercooler, bleed valve, water injection... the list goes on

They are fairly easy to fit, yes, I can only speak from my experiences with my old punto turbo, but it's just a case of putting a T piece in the inlet pipe, and sticking the DV on that.

You can get silent DV's i believe, but why wouldn't you want that ptshhh noise?!!! It's quality! I had 2 DV's running off my hybrid turbo @ 24psi, it used to make a propper rally slag sound  ;D

I have a 2002 GTI 1.8 20v Turbo. It comes with a Diverter Valve as standard, which is the same as a dump valve except it doesn't dump the pressure into the atmosphere, but instead back into the air box. The benefits are the same.
I agree the whoosh sounds a little cheap and naff, diverter valves are better. Plus it doesn't sound like a crappy ford then!
