MK4 golf GTI 1.8 turbo intermittant judder
« on: 26 February 2012, 21:55 »
Hi all Ive just joined the site and was hoping some of you may be able to give me some advice. Ive just bought a golf gti 1.8 turbo on a 51 plate and it has an intermittant judder when driving, it happens in any gear and at any speed but particulary when accelerating, it feels like a sudden loss of electric power to the whole car and it kind of jerks you a little in your seat until it picks up again.

I bought the car with a full comprehensive history and it has had lots of parts replaced over the years including new cam belt water pump and tensioner in the last 1000 miles so it appears to have been looked after, it is now showing 127,000 miles on the clock but feels very tight to drive and pulls very quick until the intermittant problem occurs.

Has any one experienced this problem before and know of any problem areas to start looking at that would cause this problem? Any help would be most appreciated, Ill get some pics of the car soon and post them one here as I think from a quick look at the forums that you can show your car on here. Anyway pleased to be here and hope you guys can help, cheers.

Welcome

Read this http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=189447.0

51 plate will probably be an AUM engine and most likely a coil pack has failed it could be a number of things however that's why you need to get it scanned

How much are they charging to scan it?

Get yourself one of these

You will need one with a MK4!

Could be a MAF sensor , N75 valve

cheers Rich, the guy who is scanning it is a mate of mine so he only chrges a tenner for his time so well worth it and he uses an expense diagnostic scanner so it looks deep into the ecu for problems, Ive only had the var a few days so havent had chance to get under bonnet yet so can you tell me does that model use individual coilpacks or  itthe bar style they have?

He has vag com then, you can get a cheap lead for £10

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VAG-USB-DIAGNOSTIC-CABLE-409-1-OBD2-II-LEAD-VAG-COM-/330399696070?pt=UK_Diagnostic_Tools_Equipment&hash=item4ced5b44c6

Not the full version but will do exactly what your mate can and you have it to use whenever you want.

Yeah it has individual coil packs which fail for a pass time - if you need to buy a new one don't buy a cheap copy one get a genuine one from VW / TPS
