Steering gaiter questions
« on: 28 February 2012, 20:26 »
Unfortunately failed the MoT last week, split steering gaiters. Garage has put shiney new ones on but have a couple of questions (has power steering btw).

Q1. The fat ends at the rack have cable clips to hold them in place but at the thin end on the track rod there are no clamps. Should they be clamped with cable clips?

Q2. If they should be clamped how do I know where they should be positioned so that the bellows are not too squashed or too stretched?

Q3, The garage said they had difficulty sourcing them cos they had some sort of pipe inside - I think I heard right! Anyone know what the purpose of these is.

Cheers.

Interested in hearing the answer for this.

When I fitted mine, I used some big cable ties at the ends - although, I wouldn't have said it was necessary.

The little pipes (I believe) are some kind of breather - so that they don't inflate/deflate.

In terms of positioning, they will self adjust - turn the rack a few times and they will find their own point to settle.
