What size torx bit is required for the gear oil plug?

It shouldn't take a torx, IIRC you'll need a 17mm allen key.
Or a wheel bolt fits in there so if you have a spare one and a welder, weld a nut on the thread and that should do!

Yep it's a 17mm Allen bolt ,probably the only one you won't have in your tool kit  :grin:

I ended up buying a drain plug key from halfords, it's designed to fit on a ratchet and was only about £2.50
