8v GTI startup issues
« on: 23 February 2012, 09:01 »
have been having this issue for a while now when it is damp in the morning, on start up the car will idle at 1000 rpm for a about 5 mins then when i am driving through town to work at traffic lights it starts to idle really poorly at 800 rpm, misfiring and then accelerating away from traffic lights really hesitant and not enjoying being under 2000 rpm, this all stops though after about 20 mins and the engine is all warm and cosy, where it runs fine. and also seems just to be a morning problem as i work about 9/10 hours and then when come to start up, none of these issues are apparent *touch wood*
have read up on it and have changed the ignition coil which has solved the start up issues i was having, and it also has brand new HT leads,
i am now starting to think it is something to do with the air intake and maybe the amf sensor, i have a performance panel filter in it, if this is contributing to the problem.
any advice/ help would be much appreciated.

Check all the breather hoses are in good condition as this can cause rough idling if split or blocked

Might be worth cleaning the throttle body as well. This can be done with carb cleaner or petrol
