Just got rid of my MK5 R. Average MPG was around 23, mixture of driving. ~£85 to fill up, 240 miles to the tank, that was DSG and driving carefully with a few blasts. Don't bother buying an R32 if you're concerned about MPG, they're made to be driven properly not economically. I've just swapped to a MK5 GTI, much better!

Ouch! I was looking at these but that with those figures I may pass lol!

Can you provide a link to back that up? I've found lots of places stating 55l but not found any stating 60l.

Not on the mk5 they dont..

Same 55 litre tank fitted to All mk5 golfs, just the bigger engine cars empty it quicker.

boot space is shallower on the r32 to house the haldex, so where are you gonna fit a larger fuel tank with space Luke?  :lipsrsealed:

I got around 24 - 25mpg overall in my 2008 R32,  and much less on Winter mornings commuting to work (around 18mpg)

If you're worried about mpg don't forget the road tax either which is over £400 a year (depending on the model year I think)

Fantastic car though   I still miss the soundtrack

I averaged around 24 over 30k. Also found the dsg gives you worse figures.

Its a much better car than the GTI... end of. Unless you are more interested in wheel spinning and straight line speed.

Walthamstow to lewisham, my old work trip (yes its early but trust me, traffic is not light at this time in London)

This is a high figure with average driving. Motorway would see over 30mpg with ease, town driving could see 9mpg

Our neighbour has a Mk5 R32 manual. He reckons he averages 23mpg doing mainly rural journeys. Thats the optomistic trip computer reading, so is probably closer to 20mpg.

I drove it once on a 40 miles round trip being exceptionally economical and managed 36mpg. It was very hard to do, as it is so tempting to convert every big gulp of V Power into noise.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.
