i've had sky where i live for years

its difficult (harsh) for them not to allow it given the digital switchover, especially if you don't have cable

Mike - if you do go for sky check out their complete package of phone, broadband and sky etc... its good value for money

Thing I found with Sky (although I only use their Freeview now) is when their customer service is good, it's VERY good. When their customer service is bad (which it was frequently when we first had it) it is ABSOLUTELY SHOCKING! That's why we cancelled the contract.

And yes, just ask your landlord about putting a dish up. It would be a pretty hard-hearted b'stard who won't let you put one up. Ours didn't mind at all and he was a penny-pinching miser!

Keeping schtum. Mostly.

If you rent you need permission for everything you do even if it's just putting up a picture !

when i first rented, the landlord really sound guy, in his 60's had a bad experience from the rat who lived here before me, had to have all walls replastered, all carpets replaced, it was like a derelict building,
garden was like a jungle even had a tesco trolley in it what wasn't visable,
so as you could expect no pictures no wooden flooring no decorating,
within the first month put pics up, blinds right through, and decorated to my colour choice.
phone lines installed, ariel and sky dish put up, line post etc. garden decked and patio'd
and all he ever does is comment how different the property looks now
done all at my own expense, and obviously put a great value to the house.
if everything is done to a high spec i guess its a bonus to the landlord,
as ill be moving due to moving closer to family.
he is really gutted im leaving,

so if you want things as your renting if hes funny about it ask him to do it, then any issues or damage is down to him.
