Drop it 40mm and enjoy it, don't slam it

says the man whos got a dropped mk3,

just do what you want to it, but dont buy cheap coilovers if you want to drop and retain some comfort,

cheap coilovers aren't that bad, they only ride hard when you drop them real low.

I have a slow 8v gti dropped on it's arse and stanced out.

I also have a vr6 dropped 50 front 40 rear with a good set of coilovers. Has standard alloys and sticky yoko tyres

Cheers!

Yh I only want a 40mm drop as the roads round here are fairly twisty so want to have some fun init, what coilovers do you recommend? Can I get a good set for around £400?

Yh I saw your old valves shady didn't look good, I'm gunna remove the sills and arches soon but there's no rust/rust bubbles near the sills so fingers crossed there gunna be ok/ minimal rust.

What's the best way to remove the sills? I did a search but no luck.?

The outer covers just pull off (you have to remove the end cap inside the front wheel arch first), with the covers off there are just a few screws holding the inner sill cover to the sill

As for coilovers, £400 should get a decent set...Weitecs or something similar.

I had a set of fk streets on the 1.6 and they seems pritty good.

For around 200 you could get a full suspension kit, I.e springs and shocks. And if you want the low look snd still retain good hamdling go for a 60mm drop. My mates.on that set up  and handles very well
