finally got round to fitting the new stereo today, and after a nightmare removing the removing pins from the CD changer, i got the gamma cassette player out. fitted the new one, turned it on worked fine. couple hours later went to get some Yorkshire puddings for dinner and noted that all the radio stations i had stored earlier were wiped, as were all the audio set ups.

had a flashback to years ago, and remembered that i might need to go yellow to red and red to yellow rather than y-y and r-r. turned the stereo on to see if this fixed the issue and nothing, reversed the cables to the original and working setup and nothing. checked fuses 37 and 42 (only 2 i could see on the fuses link page mk4) as these were labeled audio related. both them and the new stereos built in fuses were fine.

decided to put the OEM stereo back in to see if it was the car or the new stereo, and the OEM stereo didnt work. any suggestions as to what could be causing this. as it stands the cars in the OEM line up and not working.
