Back in the Golf club
« on: 21 December 2011, 23:12 »
After 3 long Golf free years (previously owned mk3 GTI 8v & mk2 GTI 16v) I've returned to Golf ownership with a GT TDI 150 that I picked up today. Very pleased with it so far, 90k, FVWSH, 3dr, only problem it's in boring old silver ;)

Needs a service and MOT so won't fully know what I've bought until next week, it will deffo need new wishbones (or just bushes?) but I don't think there's any other serious problems with it. (until the notorious chocolate cam says hello)

Compared to the Leon Cupra T that it's replaced I'm finding the handling a bit 'soggy' (I know this is a mk4 trait), any tips on tightening things up a little and making it handle like a proper GTI? (without lowering it though).

Hi, Welcome back

Cams seem to go around 115-120k so you got a little while yet....

Suspension wise get a rear anti roll bar to stiffen it up.
A small drop in eibach springs and bilstein shocks would sort it out completely
I often wonder why people never expect sarcastic comments from me - they're the only reason I speak...

I won't be doing any cosmetic mods, I like my cars standard looking :)

I may do a few choice engine / handling mods but need to get everything else working / looking as it should 1st.
