Newbie with a few qestions..
« on: 27 November 2011, 23:00 »
Hi all,

I'm new to golfs and picked up a black gti back in the summer, it came taxed and tested but after a few months the niggles have started to show themselves. :( I've tried to search for how to remedy these things, I'm pretty handy with a spanner after building a Dax Cobra kit and I'm half way through a resto of a BMW 2002. If anyone could shed some light/pointers/links on the below problems I'd really appreciate it.

So first up a bit about the car.. its a Mk2 '88 Black gti, 8v. 147k miles, full service history. Its in reasonable condition and I purchased to use as run about. The car came with all the bushes etc for the gear change mechanism, which was well worn.. amazing how different the new ones made it to drive!

But the things I am having problems with now are:

1. Grinding/rubbing on the offside as I turn left.. mostly under power. CV joint??
2. Heater/blower won't select de-mist position.. which until now wasn't a problem but the cold weather doesn't help. Is this a common/easy fix or is it a heater box out job?
3. Tailgate gas struts have gone.. where is best to source new - and cheap. Fleabay only has used ones
4. The car only came with one main key, and the petrol cap key doesn't fit. I've bought a new lock set to replace everything and make it 'one-key' again. Can anyone point me towards a thread that show's how to go about this. I know the basics but if there is anything specific to golfs that I might need to know then that would be a great help.
5. Its just recently started to over rev.. or continue to rev after releasing the throttle, this I have no idea about. Any ideas?

Other than that its pretty sweet.. just want to iron these out so I can enjoy it!

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Matt.

Just spotted this post, Its quite a lot to take in for a "hello" post

Welcome to the forum and obviously you're more than welcome to post questions on here just don't expect too much from the welcome section.

Always try the Search facilty first as often many questions have been answered before.

Also it's definitely worth your while checking out the MK2 section  as there is a lot of useful information in there already and is the best place for you to ask your questions.
