I've always used Tavern Service Station up in Crosspool. Assuming you're at Sheffield University and not Hallam, then it's a two minute drive up the A57 from Broomhill. My Golf and Beetle have been there a few times over the past 3 years and I've never had a complaint - but as they've always passed their MOTs then I suppose I wouldn't have, would I?

Give them a ring first as you'll need to book a couple of days in advance if you want to slot in for an MOT and have potential repair jobs turned around the same day.
