Nottingham Newbie
« on: 28 November 2011, 22:22 »
Hi All,

After 5 yrs of 'the cheaper option' I have Finally left the world of French cars behind! Traded in my wife's Clio for a mk3 2.0 16 V. (rabbit Gti according to my American cousin!)

So far, absolutely love it. Completely standard as far as I can tell, with 99k on the clock. The body work is in almost pristine condition, only one spot of rust on the base of the driver's door. Should be easy to fix...

Initial plans are to keep it as it is, need to give him a good service, seems a big sluggish at the moment.

The only thing I have got planned is to fit a stereo as it's got an original VW blank at the mo. all the wiring looms appear to be there so I guess there are already speakers in. (not checked as I couldn't work out how to get the grills off without taking off the whole door card) oh, and there are some strange cables hanging down in the boot...investigation needed. Not great pic but see below.

Engine wise, just sounds like a 14yr old car so probably just needs a bit of TLC and a good service as I mentioned earlier. There is a bit of oil residue in the engine bay but it doesn't look fresh. I'll give it a good degrease and see what I can find.

I'm sure some more updates will follow.....

I'm from Carlton but you'll likely see me around Beeston more than anything as I moved there for uni (:

Which means the OP is like a 10min drive away from me :p

Good to see some Likeley lads from the home town!

enjoy the golf, I nearly had one that colour for my first set of wheels.
