what would be the easiest engine swap for my mk 4 golf cabriolet

Hi there had my golf a while and i love its just the 1.8 engine is so so under powered  im thinking of taken it off the road for the winter and treating it to a better engine. Now i would love a 20v turbo lump but am i right in thinking my golf is i mix of mk3 and mk4? if thats the case was thinking vr6. Anyway all advise would be appreciated or links to ppl who have already done this many thank

Nope it is a mk3 so VR is a good easy enough swap but might be worth getting a donor car for everything.
