Central locking problem, any ideas?
« on: 10 November 2011, 17:31 »
Yesterday my car was running fine, it rained last night and was kind of cold out. Now this morning the drivers door would not open, the key/lock barrel was working fine and unlocked the passenger door and the boot, but the drivers door just wouldn't open. It was like both interior and exterior door handles weren't connected to anything. Also the battery was dead so the car would not start
So I ended up ripping out the door card (got another one on the way quite cheap) and disconnecting all the wiring looms inside the door. Once the looms that control the central locking were disconnected the door handles (both inside and outside handles) worked perfectly and open the door up.
Then I reconnected these wiring looms and the door handles still worked, then locked the car and the drivers door wouldn't open again. Unconnected the same central locking loom and they opened again
So I've left the car like this for now. I basically have no central locking now, so i have to lock the driver and passenger doors individually. The lock in the boot only ever works when the central locking loom in the drivers door is connected (the lock/key barrel hasn't ever worked in the boot). So i need to sort this out quickly as I can't have my boot unlocked forever..

Any ideas or helpful information guys and girls??

Similar thing happened on mine but weather was alot colder, only happened a handful of times though so didnt investigate,i worked out that when it did happen i had to pull on the outer door handle really really slowly and it would open, but could never get it to open from the inside when it did it,very strange  :undecided:at least mines a 5 door so i could still get out

I'll reconnect the central locking wire loom and pull on the handle really slowly, maybe it'll help..

Any other answers?

well, you need to sort out the dead battery - that won't help the central locking pump run.

Otherwise reconnect and check air lines to the doors, hissing when you open/close the central locking.

Also check the condition of the wiring in the doors, and that the pump is dry in the boot.  Mine was wet as the rear light leaked.

You only ever need two tools in life. If it moves and it shouldn't use Duct Tape. If it does not move and it should, use WD40.
