gearbox fifth gear query

I am thinking of buying a recon gearbox for the gti 8v off ebay. My question is He said he will fit anyratio of fifth gear if i give him the ratio, what is the most eco nomical fifth gear would it make any differnec eif he fitted a driver or GL fifth or should i leave alone and fit a standard 8v one? thanks

A stock 8v will happily pull a higher 5th and get better fuel economy on the motorway for it IMO. If he isnt charging you any more for it I would go for it myself.
