Brake help!!! am i getting taken for a ride?
« on: 05 November 2011, 15:53 »
Hi, Thanks in advance for any help, i really dont want to get ripped off....

I have had a spongy brake with excess pedal travel ever since i bought my golf mk4 1.8t..... It had a new abs unit before i bought it and i was told by the garage after they bled it several times to no prevail that they tested the servo and it was alright so it looks like i need a new master cylinder. So i had the master cylinder replaced on friday and the brakes are still spongy!!!  they said they have bled it and its running clear, they've clamped off the lines and all the calipers and lines are alright... so now they say it is most likely either the servo or abs unit... which i said had been replaced so they said bring it back monday and we'll do the servo...... i thought the servo made the brakes harder?  :undecided:

Does this sound like the right route to take? Or has anyone got any other ideas on what it could be? I dont have the money to burn on this and the whole thing will end up quite pricey...

If this helps indicate at all, i read the servo is linked to the turbo and i am down on power (remapped) but i scanned this morning and the only code i am getting on vagcom is:

Address 03: ABS Brakes
1 Fault Found:
01314 - Engine Control Module
            013 - Check DTC Memory - Intermittent

Sorry for the long post but this car has driven me flat broke so any help is greatly appreciated!!

Thanks alot!!
Gabriel

I don't know to be honest, they're a vw and Audi specialist so assumed they would know the process cus I've heard it's tricky on the mk4's...
