MK! GOLF 1.1 ENGINE PROBLEM NEED HELP PLZ!

hello i have just brought a mk1 golf 1.1 and at first engine was tikking over high since driving it a few weeks its gradually got to the point where max speed is 40ph.

i can drive everywhere mint if i just rest my foot on accelorator, but if i put it down it just splutters n missfires and dont move. i have changed petrol pump cleaned spark plugs, put red X in tank still no joy.

any clue?

changed the fuel filter?
kink in the fuel line?
cleaned the carb?
is the float in the carb set correctly?
is the choke going off?- what colour are the plugs?

Have you checked the ignition timing?

May be worth stripping the top off the carb and checking the jets are not blocked, especially the main jet and air corrector.

cheers i am takin it to vw place near me for full carb strip and clean, also if any1 on here knows where i can get a 16v supplied and fitted for round ?1000 let me know i have cash waiting

does it run initially ok for a while?, had another thought

yeah it  will run ok for a while bout 15 mins, i cant floor it but it runs alot betta at 1st, its had a weber carb conversion if that makes a difference.??

have you got a vented fuel cap, has it been changed, have you tried running without the fuel cap on?

had it fixed a few weeks ago i had the carb strip n cleaned and it need a new point, now its all mint agen runnin sweet for 300k
