Cross member bolt !!

Just fitted a new 20mm anti roll bar and polyeurethane bushes to my 8v digi while doing so i sheered the front cross member bolt i have no pictures of it to show yous but there is still about an inch of bolt sticking out of the chasis. How do i go about getting this out and is there an access point to where it bolts into?

Drill it out start with small untill you can prise out whats left on the bolt long ass way unless you cna get a bolt extractor kit!

Weld a nut on if you have the kit

If there is an inch of thread sticking out then put two nuts on and try and undo it that way. If you have a welder, do as molegti says. Alternatively, a set of mole grips should move it. Problem you have is that it sounds like you might have cross threaded the captive nut the bolt goes into? If so, you need to tap the hole before you go sticking a new bolt in there.

There isnt any threads on the part sticking out there only on the end of the bolt which is inside the chassis and a dnt see how it would be threaded i sheared it while taking it out, its never been out while ive owned the car (11 years) and it looks like it never has been out.

i got mot this week and need to change roll bar bushes.
im too scared to do it incase this happens.

Hose it with PlusGas and then start undoing it.

What will normally happen is that it will go tight after a while - this is why people shear things off on old Golfs.

There's probably corrosion on the threads that have been exposed.  See if you can get the PlusGas in to the top of the bolt to get in the rust, then work it so you go undo a full turn, back up half a turn, undo a full turn, back up half a turn.  Re-apply the penetrating fluid while you're working the bolt out.  This should help clear the threads and keep things moving.

Its all good i heated it for 5 mins and turned it out quarter a turn at a time with mole grips once it came past the rust it was easy. And for weazgti a dont think you will have to drop the whole cross member i only had to do that because i was fitting a whole new anti-roll bar and bushes.
