gearbox code 2y 26028 3 anyone know what box this is???

that's the code i found on the bottom of my gearbox... i'm assuming it's the code???

my synchro has gone between 3rd and 4th and i wanna determine what box i have inorder to get a recon unit

2y sounds like 02y which is a 16v box code.. 26028 is the d.o.m, so yours is 26th of feb 1988. They didn't put the 1st 8 (for the eighties), you have to sort of know the era, ie a 1 would be 91, as they didn't make them in 81.. If you catch my drift.. You can count the splines to help confirm also, think I read the 16v has 28? Splines, which is more than the 8v..
