1.8 GL cutting out (tried search)
« on: 12 September 2011, 13:40 »
Hi guys

I've tried the search function and everything i could do too my knowledge and i hate giving up but here goes.

When the car has fully warmed up it will cut out and i can only the start the engine about a minute later, then once I'm going and the engine is running, when i next slow down and pull away again it will guaranteed cut out within a couple of minutes.

I really have no idea what it could be so a bit of help would be much appreciated

Cheers

Jon

Ideally you'll first need to scan the car to see if there any fault codes that come up. Faults related to the throttle body should store in the memory and it may be worth removing the round intake pipe held by 3 10mms over the throttle and seeing if its dirty. If theres oil in it, clean it out.

Next up I'd test/donor a coil pack

If that checks out the coolant temp sensor could be playing up - you should be able to read its value via a diagnostic kit such as VAG-COM. Start at that and see how you get on :)

fuel pump relay, coil, temp sensor are all common faults (also check the rubber spi mounting as these perish)
