General upgrades?
« on: 16 August 2011, 21:43 »
Just sat here thinking over the possibilities

A mk4 front end, wings, bonnet and lights? I think the mark 4 cabriolet was a mk 3 some call it a mk 3.5. Whats involved and how easy is it to do?

Next question is engine transplants? What engine bolts straight in? Picking up existing mounts and locating with gearbox etc?

Another question is gearbox, my 020 box is rubbish, what choices do i have? Another model? Seems a rebuild only replaces a crap box with the same just with more life in it.

mk3.5 (aka mk4 cab) front end will fit but you need to modify the wings alot at the bottoms (due to the different sill designs)

I guess yours is an 8v so your limited due to the gearbox (if you swap the box for an 02a then 16v or vr will fit easily) and you only really need the engin loom (plus ecu and keys if after later 94), and the 020 box isn't that rubbish if the oil is changed during its life & kept topped up (the amercians keep the 020 box when supercharging the 8v motors, although I believe they change the diff?)

Std Mk4 front end will not fit, mk3.5 cabrio is completely different and even that needs to mods to fit a mk3.
