My recently bought mk2 16v, some questions..

been quoted £78 +vat to change t/belt and tensioner by vw specialist in burton, i will supply belt which i thought was pretty reasonable

make sure you buy a VAG timing belt, dont be skimping on something as important as a timing belt

Also get a genuine VW tensioner, I've used a GSF one before and the Tensioning tool I have didn't even fit it.

the only downside is that they cost about £50 for the 16V from VW

Yes, I have used them. Only once so far though, for a service. No problems...

Its a bit further to travel, but midlandvw in cannock are also very good.
