hottuning decat pipe too short...thoughts?
« on: 06 August 2011, 15:40 »
Those who have been following the underhanded exploits of my so called mate who has shifted the goalposts and asked me to stick a 2l bottom end and 8v head into his 1600 ryder will be pleased to hear that he's hit a snag. Karma and all that. All i left him with was fitting up the exhaust and lo and behold we have trouble! I'm no expert but there shouldn't be 10inches of fresh air between the manifold flange and the corresponding flange on the decat pipe. Are there two lengths available and we've picked up the shortest? We're fitting it up to a powerflow mk2 gti system so i can only assume the decat pipe is the incorrect length. I've emailed hottuning for clarification if we've ordered the wrong part. Also the 8mm bolts don't go through the corresponding holes on the manifold flange. Any ideas? Suppose i can take the holes out but would rather get something that would fit right from the off. As always any help or advice appreciated. Morgs

I bought a 4 branch off hottuning but its for a cat car and the manifold is shorter, I returned it because they arent particularly helpful and wanted to sell me a decat even though I never had a cat.

the manifold is a standard 8v though and i made it clear (or thought i had) what i needed it for. I emailed them today about it so can't comment on their helpfulness yet. Suppose i'll just stick a sleeve on it if i have no joy elsewhere.

why are you needing a cat bypass on a std euro mk2

anything you buy online will be differant layout to the standard non cat exhausts as the cat is a bolt on flange ...europeans might get confused as they had cats and we didnt

just get a lambda sensor boss welded to whatver you have now

i can't just use what was there though because it was a 1600 with a completely different style of flange and (i imagine) flow rate compared to that required for the larger engine. It might be that i just knock up a sleeve to make up the difference? Or take thd flange off the hottuning pipe and just make up my own section to the right length. Any other sources for a straight pipe welcome though.
