Electric seats are nice to have especially with a memory function if there are more than one or two drivers. Other than that, they increase weight and have been known to go seriously wrong. I also find it rather bizarre that the lumbar support is electric. I have my manual lumbar support on max on both seats and that's where it stays.
Other minus points with the electric motors underneath are that the seats can never be set low enough in a sporty position and I would not have been able to install my underseat amplifier and sub-woofer.
Therefore, for me at least, the positives of not having them considerably outweigh the negatives for their inclusion.

The electric seats in the mk5 take up no more room. Infact you can have the storage pack with the underseat draws with the electric seats and still have the same room underneath the seats were your amplifier and subwoofer are. They still go as low as the manual seats.

I could have inserted the word 'probably' regarding underseat storage space. However, as I did not have a Mk5 Golf, I cannot possibly comment.
