STEERING RACK QUESTION

steering rack came today  but in order to get this i had to send my old 1 off  and ive made a school boy error!. i diddent take a pic of my old 1 to compare  the new 1  to . in this pic there is a bracket inbetween the 2 poly bushes and im sure the old rack diddent have this ? can anyone shed some light on what its for ?

Later racks had the bracket but it will still fit an earlier car all ok.

I think they bolted a vibration damper to it on cabrios

steering rack whent on  a treat !! i connected everything up suspension , hubs , steering rack , tie rod ends  , discs , and when i turned from left lock all the way to right lock there was some right clunking  so after a few minuets of brain picking a realised that it was going from left lock to right lock  with no keys in the ignition and making a like clicking noise and felt ruff as .   so really the steering lock should of  be kicking in !! but it wasent  so thats when i realised before i bought the car it was being sold because someone had tried to pince her and thats why the wiring was all hanging out . luckily she had a clifford alarm  a good 1 . any way  what parts do the low lifes break on the lock ? is it the steering columb i need now ?

I am sure that bracket is for a 5 speed gear linkage....
