Will Mk2 shocks fit a late Mk3?
« on: 20 July 2011, 13:22 »
I know this has been asked before but I can't find a definative answer.

As I understand it Mk2 and Mk3 shocks are interchangable however I believe the spring diameter changed for the late Mk3 (mines a 97) so therefore will Mk2 shocks still be a direct fit or did the spring plate change aswell?

Also would Mk2 shocks be under dampened even when paired with Mk3 springs?

Thanks in advance.

Yes will fit all ok, top mounts need changing however.

Thanks for the quick reply.

When I say spring plates I mean the bit the spring sits on the shock itself. If the diameter of the spring changed was just wondering if this changed also.

Do you mean top mounts need changing to Mk2 ones or just renewing? I would be using Mk3 springs.

spring plates are what the springs sit into on the shocker top. but use mk3 VR mounts (many mk2 owners use them too) as these are heavier duty than o.e

b.t.w rears are the same fitment

So the larger diameter mk3 springs would still fit on a mk2 shock?

I could then use my existing mk3 spring plates and just upgrade my existing top mounts to new VR6 ones?

Is there any issue with using mk2 dampers on a mk3 with it being a heavier car?

Anyone know if they are more likely to bottom out on a mk3 with mk3 springs?
