mk3 golf problems

hi people im new here and my mk3 golf is bugging me its a 1.4 mk3 match 95 on spi abd engine


i need help with a few things firstly it drinks fuel like its a vr6 its a 1.4
it feels wooly to drive
only has two rust holes
is so underpowered walking is quicker
and it understeers something chronic

now i used to have a mk3 polo which i loved but i had an accident which left me in this and to be fair i dont like it at all its no where near as sharp or responsive as my polo and not half as much fun my golf has had a replacement head and is a 95 spi abd engine could this be whats causing the overfuelling ive put gti seats in which are much better then the dreary match ones and its on 13 by 5.5j sport radars (last owners mods) so come on people tell me how do i sort this s/o/s out and how do i make it fun to drive

Poor mpg could be a coolant temp sender problem.

Hi chap. What temperature is your car running at?
Does it get to 90 and stay there even when on the move?
Thermostat sticking open is quite common. My last car was a 1.4 ABD, know your pain 

The 13" sport raders were a factory wheel on the match iirc.

If you want to sharpen up the handling a bit, stick some 15" wheels with lower profile tyres on, get it lowered on stiffer shocks and springs. It will never be a sports car but they can still be a giggle. Drilled airbox and filter will give a bit of noise that at least makes it sound a bit racier

it was running no temp at all but its died now the cambelt snapped yesterday
