Indicator problems
« on: 07 July 2011, 16:38 »
Neither of my indicators in the front bumper work, the rest blink but really quickly.
I have searched and searched but not found an answer.
I have changed the relay, checked the fuse and all the bulbs.
Only thing i can think of is i have found some wires that go no where and think they might have something to do with it???

This wire is blue and is wrapped in the same bit as a green wire that goes to what looks like a sensor in the radiator. (Also my temp gauge doesn't work - maybe this is the fault??)

Not a clue what these are for ???

Not sure what this plug does?? Thought it was for fog lights but it is only on the drivers side ??

Cheers
Liam

Have they both all of a sudden just stopped working or have they dropped out 1 by 1 over time? If one by one then try cleaning up the bulb holder contacts. These sometimes have to be really clean for good continuity. If they've both stopped suddenly You can test for an intermittent voltage at the ends of the bulb holders. If no voltage is present there, trace the wire back a bit to where it plugs in, and test the incoming cable there. If no voltage then keep tracing back until you get to where the power is, and you should figure the problem. One of my wires was broken near the connector. Also check fuses as I think the circuits are split up.

Not sure what car you have, if its an 8v digi the coolant guage sensor is in front of blue ecu coolant sensor in front of head. Unplug it and short the two wires out, if the guage rises its the sensor at fault-replace. If its a 16v the sensor is a small black m10 screw in jobbie on side of head with 2 other sensors, disconnect it and short the wire straight to the head, direct. If the guage rises its the sensor at fault, if not its the wiring. If you have an 8v kjet I'm not sure where/what the sensor is like, but the principles the same, disconnect and short it to earth to see if its the wiring or the sensor at fault.

Forgot to mention the 8v digi sensor is black, (next to blue one), and if its 16v its the red+yellow wire you need to disconnect and short out. If it raises the guage, before you replace the sensor try cleaning the head of the sensor where the wire attaches as corrosion here can cause the poor continuity. If you have to get a new sensor, get it from vwspares.co.uk, they're about 3quid and are perfectly fine, gsf ones are not.
