drive shaft removal..... Help
« on: 03 July 2011, 21:26 »
I am needing to remove the drive shaft on left side of my Mk2 Golf gti, due to split CV joint boots.
Having undone the shaft connection inboard (6 spline bolts) and at hub, I could not remove the drive shaft as there was not  not enough clearance space, even with max steering lock applied.
So do i need to just remove the lower ball joint via the 17mm bolt, to then allow me to move the wishbone down to make clearance for the drive shaft? Or do i have to remove anything else, eg anti roll bar etc.

Any feedback or help greatly appreciated.
Many Thanks Jon

Either disconnect balljoint or suspension strut.

Thank you for the quick response

sorry for the further question.................. but which do you reckon is easier, disconnecting the balljoint or suspension strut?
Do i need spring compressors for either of these options?

You will only need spring compressors if you wanted to dismantle the strut.
As already said disconnecting the strut is probably easier, make sure you mark it up.
