020 gearbox, vr6 throttle body

im having trouble splitting the clutch housing from the rest of the box, i've removed all visable bolts that would hold it in place. beaten it numerous times with a copper hammer but still no joy. inside the box are 4 alloy circles, have tried to remove to see if there are hidden bolts underneath as the haynes manual says "make sure that all the bolts are removed from inside the cluth housing". however the circles don't seem to budge and look like part of the machined box. please help, i need it sorted!!

as for the vr6 throttle body, wondered if anyone knows if they've been fitted to a mk2 16v inlet manifold?? i know the citroen mi16 engine can use them, surely the golf 16v can too?

To separate the g/box cases you have to remove the 5th gears and selector ass and the drive shaft flanges. There is a bolt that locks the reverse shaft in place, make sure that is removed. Cant say for sure if the VR6 throttle body will fit, with a bit of ingenuity anything is possible, the 16v throttle body is not the restriction on the inlet side, why do you want to fit a VR6 one?.

thanks for the post, i'll get on it when i can get to the workshop. as for the throttle body, i know they use them on the citroen mi16, surely there is something to be had by fitting one? and if that's not the restriction then where would be a better place to start. bearing in mind i have a stainless 4 branch manifold, 2.5" exhaust and a drilled air box already?? any suggestions?

if your trying to improve air flow surely polishing/porting your head and manifolds would be the best thing to do. you can get your throttle body ported as well but i don't know much about 16v's. got a friend who tunes vw's so i can ask him whats worth doing.
