Can I rock a mk2 GTI starter in my MK1 cab GTI and thus, cos a mk2 can run a mk3 can a mk1 run a mk3 too?  cheers

Yeah I think so, think you can rock a mk3 on a mk1 including diesel versions for that extra spin!

Hmmm I think MK3 uses an extra bolt as the gearbox is a lot more different to mk1 and 2

How can it be different when I have a mk3 starter on my mk2 at the min? They have the exact same face on them, the mk3 is just a little longer. Both the mk3 and mk2 have an extra bracket on cos they connect straight through the front engine mount. On my mk1 atm it has this bracket but it attaches to nothing.

Ah sounds like it's not going to be problem then really.... they're so easy to change I'd just say wack it on if you need to.

What's wrong with just getting another mk1 starter, whats up with the one already on it?.... don't forget you can fit diesel mk1/2 starters too, they are longer and have more torque. not really necessary though.

The one on it has some pretty mashed up magnets in it haha

Also, I just thought It would be easier getting hold of a mk3 or mk2 starter amongst my mates. Today I discovered that it is not

Just bought a MK3 starter on Egay - They are longer than both the MK1 and 2 so will be a bit more torquey, plus they don't sound as rattly.
