Help !!!! Non starter !

Hi all.I'm trying to help someone out with a 2 litre 8v that wo'nt start.It's been cutting out often and has gradually got worse and worse and now wo'nt start at all.I'm thinking coil,dizzy,crank sensor etc but where should i start ?.What's more likely ?.Thanks.

Start with the basics 

Have you got a spark
Is the fuel pump priming
Does it turn over as it should.
