My 1.6 is getting stripped and over 6 months getting a respray and an engine swap. ABF time. Chosen the ABF as it's on budget (just buying a full car) and a VR will kill me on fuel costs.

I don't care if it's not worth it.

Once it's stripped I'll run cables for amps and stuff but was wondering what you'd do. Cambelt and headgasket? Clutch probably. Will do manifold gaskets and that. What bushea are there to replace/upgrade? Baring in mind I don't have a huge budget but since it's over 6 months I'm happy to wait and save kinda thing. I'll post more info later.. :)

if you have 6 months to play with, why not rebuild the engine? It's a great learning experience and will hugely add to the value when you come to sell it.

I was summing up rebuilding it, rebuilting it with a turbo in mind or just leaving it.

I've never rebuilt one fully. Any idea on an average cost of the parts? I think maybe I should.

Cheers.

Tbh, with your age & driving experience i'd say turboing it isn't a very good idea. Costs will soon spiral way above what you expect and you'll probably crash it within a week :lipsrsealed:

As topher says over the course of 6 months i'd strip it down & rebuild it. If I had the time/space then i'd do that for sure

Haha had an M3 as a daily for a month once.

Nah thinking reasonably, I don't want to turbo it ATM, I meant rebuilt it with a turbo in mind later on.

Just want a simple install, will rebuilding and installing.

I will be doing this, I'm wondering what sort of modifications can be done while on the stock ECU, maybe with a remap. Cams, port and polishing etc. Without costing the earth? :)
