Thermostat
« on: 11 June 2011, 19:58 »
Looking to change my thermostat on my car cos it's stuck at 70 constantly!

1stly what thermostat do I need? Is there a difference between like a 1.6/1.8/2.0/2.8 one? (I've got a 2.0 8v)
2ndly what else do I need to change apart from the fluid obviously. Water flange? The coolant sensor works so I won't change that.
And finally, is it an easy job?

Cheer guys

Just get yourself to GSF or the likes. They will give you the right one anyway when you tell them what engine you have. Only about £6, and you will need a new seal. They are only £1 as well.

It is a straight forward job but not as easy as say a BMW M52 engine or old Merc where it is sat at the top of the engine bay!

The annoying bit is you need to get the power steering pump out of the way if you have one so it just takes a bit longer to undo a few more bolts.

Did ours a couple of weeks back as it was stuck wide open and now gets up to temp nice and quckly and holds it bang on. Perfect! Part was a couple of quid and time was probably an hour or so by the time I jacked the car up and down and had some cups of tea and a chat with neighbours.
