Cleaning throttle body 2.0 8v
« on: 09 June 2011, 21:52 »
What do I need to buy and how do I clean out the throttle body on my mk3 golf Gti 2.0 8v

I have looked but I seem to find the Haynes book of lies all the time

Any hints or tips would be great

All you need is a can of carb cleaner and an old toothbrush to clean it. It's as simple as removing the intake pipe and undoing the 4 Allen key bolts holding the throttle body to the intake manifold. Make sure to pay extra attention to the edges of the butterfly mechanism and ramps inside the chamber as these become gummed up rather easily.
