Just bought a gti and need some help, please

Just picked up a mk3 gti 8v today. Went to fill er up and the the part of the fuel filler neck where the cap screws on was totally rusted. Is this an easy fix?

Also the temperature gauge doesn't work. Is this a common problem? Where does the fault usually come from?

Have u tried the search thing for the temp quage issue? Normally someone has asked the question before.

As far as the rust goes, depends how bad it is. Mine was rusty inside the filler flap but on tje flat part so I cleaned it all, got rid of all the rust and treated it. I just filled and sprayed it as its hidden all the time anyway.

well i've just bought a new temp gauge sensor so i'll try that first and see what happens.
