91 Golf GTI 1.8 8V Iffy starting problem
« on: 31 May 2011, 22:29 »
Evening guys,

Im the proud owner of a 1991 Golf GTI 8V that I recently purchased in my mid-life crisis having owned both 8V and 16V in my 20's. Having done the metal coolant pipe replacement, both water flanges, rear bearings/discs/pads/calipers, timing belt/water temperature sender (not the blue one, the other one) and fitted a new exhaust. The only thing left to sort really, is the starting.

The only way I can start the car is to turn the ignition on, wait for a couple of the red lights to go out on the MFA and the fuel pump to stop, plant my foot to the floor on the accelerator and turn the key, whereas I seem to recall, my last ones would just start on the turn of the key.
Anyone else experienced this? anyone got any tips?

Thanks in Anticipation.
